Bash in the Desert: Friday Night Top Posts
Friday night saw some of the premier teams in the tournament lace them up and compete. Despite only having four game times this evening, there was a lot of talent on display. Below are the some of the posts who stood out in night one.
Friday Night Top Posts
Steele Bennett 6’11 C 2018 Desert Vista (Factory)
Tonight was not the best of nights as far as what Bennett is capable of. However, Bennett did demonstrate why he is one of the top players in the state for his age group. Even if things are not going his way, he is good on the glass and protects the paint extremely well. Look for Bennett to continue doing the little things while having an even better day on Saturday.
Nik Mains 6’9 SF/PF 2016 Aspire (Arsenal)
Mains is removed from high school and is the older brother of Jordan Mains, who is making a name for himself. Mains had some complications which has led to him continuing to play on the circuit as an unsigned senior. He looks improved since the last time I saw him, he looks more confident finishing at the rim and is moving better without the basketball. In addition, his shot is still on point.
Miles Houston 6’8 PF/C 2019 Hamilton (PowerHouse Hoops)
Houston’s motor really impressed me. He was frequently in the right spot defensively, got up and down the court well, and was all over the glass. In addition, he was constantly working for a spot on the block and finishing well around the rim. Houston was one of the most impressive players of the day. It will be fun to watch him compete the rest of the weekend.
Shaun Wahlstrom 6’8 PF/C Verrado (Arizona Classics)
Wahlstrom has become one of my favorite players in the state. He has a good attitude, competes hard, and is very skilled. He can play on the block and does not shy away from contact and has good feet. Moreover, he has a smooth shot and can shoot it with confidence from the 3. Defensively, he moves his feet well and can play in an array of systems.
Leland Wallace 6’5 SF/PF Centennial (Nevada) (Las Vegas Knicks)
Wallace is the only “post” on this list that is not a true post. He is more of a 3; however, his body and skill set enable him to play the 2-4. He is physical on the block and gets his way whenever he wants. Moreover, he brings a toughness on the glass and on the defensive end of the floor. Although he is only 6’5, his toughness and athleticism allow him to feel like he is much bigger than his size.
