Around the State : Sumter-Clarendon (2018)
Prep Hoops is taking a trip around the Palmetto State and today we make a stop in Sumter and Clarendon Counties. Sumter County is where former NBA player Ray Allen (Hillcrest HS) no longer open and of course the old Fighting Gamecock General Thomas Sumter of the American Revolutionary War. Here is some 2018 kids to keep a eye on this season from the this past of the Palmetto State.
Sumter and Clarendon Counties has was hit hard this past season with graduations. Temetrius “Jai” Morant, James Jennings, Davante Pack, Malik Wilson, Dontra Osborne, Tyrell Still, Ryan Misseldine, Jaylenn Corbett, Marquez Hunt, Jalen White and Malik Cokley to just name a few.
Isaih Moore will look to lead the Sumter HS Fighting Gamecocks this coming season. Moore 6’8 and very versatile is now playing AAU with Upward Stars Southeast 2018. Moore the son of Sumter HS Head Coach Shawn Jones was named Region Player of the Year last season. Moore a small forward has grown quickly over the past few years. Moore averaged 11 ppg last season. Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Colorado State and South Carolina State have all offered Moore this season.
Jerrel KellyJerrel Kelly just completed his junior season at Laurence Manning Academy for Head Coach Will Epps. Kelly 6’8 left-handed post player runs AAU with Upward Stars Southeast 2018. Kelly averaged 10 ppg and 7 rebounds this season for the Swampcats. Kelly has received interest from East Carolina University, Old Dominion University, Wofford and Canisius College according to Epps.
Terrell Houston a combo guard has a quick first step to the basket. Houston will look to lead the Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats next fall. Houston has really improved on his perimeter shooting.
Grant Singleton has played a big role for the Lakewood HS Gators the past few seasons. Singleton a point guard is playing AAU with South Carolina Supreme and Team South Carolina. Singleton was named Region Player of the Year this past season in leading the Gators into the 2nd Round before falling to eventual State Champion Lower Richland HS. Coker College offered Singleton last season.
Ahkeem Lawson came on strong late in the season for the Gators. Lawson 6’6 left-handed post player played his first season for the Gators after transferring in from nearby Sumter HS. Lawson is playing AAU with Singleton on the South Carolina Supreme and Team South Carolina. Lawson seems to be improving every time he plays. Lawson stays in the paint and battles on the glass on both ends of the floor.
Cameron Singleton might be heading back over to Sumter HS according to close sources after playing just the 2nd semester at Laurence Manning Academy last season. Singleton a point guard came on strong for the Swampcats late in the season last year.
