Around the State: Florence County (2018)
Prep Hoops is taking a trip around the Palmetto State and today we make a stop in Florence County. Florence County is where former NFL Player and Hall of Fame Harry Carson (Wilson HS) and of course the home to General Francis Marion of the American Revolutionary War. Here is some 2018 kids to keep a eye on for this coming season.
Sharone Wright Jr. a 6’6 guard has led the West Florence HS Knights the past season with his running mates Jalen Cameron, and Juan Perez to three straight Pepsi Carolina Classic titles. Wright was also name to all region team in Region 6-5A. Wright just verbaled to Wake Forest University recently.
Wright is the son of former NBA player Sharone Wright Sr. Wright plays AAU ball for the Karolina Khaos. Wright averaged 16.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. Wright has 841 career points at West Florence.
Travion McCray 6’2 guard West Florence McCray a point guard led the Knights to a 20-6 season. McCray averaged 12.1 ppg and had 6.7 rpg a game for the Knights. McCray has 1,154 career points in his high school career. McCray started out at Timmonsville HS. McCray is getting looks from South Carolina State and Stetson University.
Juan Perez averaged 6.1 ppg. and grabbed 10.6 rebounds for the Knights this season. Perez has started the last two years for the Knights. Perez is a 6’6 power forward for the Knights. Perez plays AAU ball for the Karolina Khaos.
Alex Caldwell 6’0 guard attends Wilson HS. Caldwell plays for the Upward Stars SE teams on the Adidas circuit. Caldwell averaged 13.2 ppg for the Tigers this season Caldwell played last year at Richland Northeast HS. Caldwell is being looked by East Carolina, Austin Peay, College of Charleston, Winthrop, and South Carolina State.
Jamontay Williams 6’7 averaged 4.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg for the Tigers. Williams protecst the paint for the Tigers. Williams runs with Carolina Wolves AAU squad.
Tyrek Epps 5’9 point guard from Lake City HS had a great spring running AAU with TMP. Epps averaged 13.4 for the Panthers this season. Epps helped the Panthers finished for tied for second in Region 6-3A.
Landon Dorsey South Florence
Dorsey 6’2 is a bit of a one trick pony. Dorsey is a shooter. Dorsey brings a tough mind set to the floor. Dorsey will look to be the leader for the Bruins this season.
Kobe Praylow Hannah-Pamplico (Pamplico)
Praylow 5’9 guard averaged 21.8 ppg for Raiders last season. Praylow is a volume shooter at times will be playing for his 3rd coach in as many years for the Red Raiders. Praylow played AAU with the Carolina Stampede this past spring.
EJ Porter Florence Christian
Porter 5’10 guard can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. Porter averaged 12.1 ppg for the Eagles last season. Porter is the son of Francis Marion Women’s Basketball Coach Jeri Porter.
Dock Smith Timmonsville
Smith averaged 3.3 ppg and grabbed 3.3 rebounds last year. Smith can hit the 12-14 footer. Smith plays both football and basketball for the Whirlwinds. Smith has great length and will be looked on for more production in the paint with the graduation of Aaron Rivers. Smith is a 6’5 center.
