Around the State : Aiken County (2018)
Prep Hoops travels across the Palmetto State to check out the best players in Aiken County. Aiken County is an equestrian destination for horse fans. Gary’s Hamburgers in North Augusta is always a great treat on your way to Riverview Park. Aiken County looks to have plenty of players to recruit from this coming 2018 season.
Tez Collins – North Augusta
Collins is the leader of this Yellow Jackets squad. Collins averaged 13.5 ppg and 6.5 rebounds last season. Collins 6’4 plays AAU with Georgia Stars – Augusta.
Tyrek Walls – North Augusta
Walls 5’9 point guard leads the offense with his quick ball handling and ability to get to the rack. Walls averaged 5 ppg and 4.5 assists last season.
Bryson Mozone – North Augusta
Mozone 6’4 is vastly improved since last season. Mozone a skilled player offensively is looking to have a break out season for the Yellow Jackets. Mozone averaged 9.1 ppg last season.
Melvin McKie – South Aiken
McKie 5’10 is the engine that makes the Thoroughbreds run. McKie averaged 15.1 ppg and 5 rebounds last season for the 15-8 Thoroughbreds. McKie a point guard plays AAU with Carolina Chaos (not to be confused with the Karolina Khaos). McKie has a great motor end to end and can hit the pull-up jumper. McKie has just a great attitude who loves to play the game of basketball. McKie scored 30 points in a season ending loss to Wren HS in the playoffs.
Joshua Drayton – South Aiken
Drayton only stands 5’11 but he’s as tough as they come on the floor. Drayton has no position but best bet is just to keep him on the floor. Drayton doesn’t mind playing in the paint and rebounding or diving on the floor for loose balls. Drayton is always around the ball and just brings that blue collar attitude to the game. Drayton averaged 9.2 ppg and 5 rebounds last season.
Daniel Parrish – South Aiken
Parrish 6’1 left-handed slender sleek athlete averaged 13.6 ppg and 8 rebounds last season.
Jordan Lytes – Aiken (pictured on front)
Lytes is back for the Hornets after averaging 10.2 ppg and 4.3 assists last season. Lytes plays AAU with the Carolina Chaos. Lytes 6’2 will look to lead this Hornets squad this season. The Hornets finished 24-5 last season under Head Coach Darris Jackson.
Calvin Mathis – Aiken
Mathis 6’4 is the facilitator of the Hornets offense. Mathis 6’4 averaged 7 ppg last season. Mathis excels on the football field as a wide receiver.
Kevin Williamson – Aiken
Williamson 6’3 can really shoot the ball and was a All-Region Performer last season. Williamson a outstanding student in the classroom played with the Southern Kings on the AAU circuit.
Melvin Alewine – Ridge Spring-Monetta (Monetta)
Alewine is fairly new to the game of basketball. Alewine 6’3 also plays football for the Trojans. Alewine is a strong rugged post player.
Tyson Bettis – Ridge Spring-Monetta (Monetta)
Bettis plays multiple sports at the small high school. Bettis 6’1 (195) a quarterback on the football team was a All-State Performer on the hardwood averaging 14 ppg this season.
