Jared Butler is both a football and basketball player at Riverside Academy but right now his focus is competing with MEBO Team Hood in the EYBL. Jared is scoring 15.2 points, five assists, and 4.2 rebounds a game shooting 42 percent on his 13-14 attempts per contest (half of his attempts are at the arc).
“In the Eybl it’s competition every game so naturally you become a better player and a competitor,” Butler said. “You also learn your strengths and your weaknesses. The challenge is playing the best players in the country day in and day out. It tears your body and it’s tough to get wins.”
Minnesota offered Butler last night joining teams like Texas, Houston, Alabama, Wichita State, Georgia Tech, UMass, and others in offering the Louisiana guard.
“Alabama, Texas, and Houston are talking to me the most,” Butler said. “I’m more than likely taking a visit to all three school in June, right now I’m just finalizing the dates.”
A week ago Butler talked to Scout.com about the schools calling him the most.
“Alabama and Texas text me about every day and the Houston head coach calls me twice a week, telling me what I need to work on and stuff like that.
“An NBA point guard who played and coached in the NBA, that’s what I like about Coach Avery (Johnson) of Alabama. “Shaka Smart is running (Texas). He’s an up and coming guy. He’s young and he’s going to work.
“(Coach Sampson) of Houston shows that he’s really bought into my success. He is calling me and telling me like I’m already a player on the team.”
Minnesota fully joined the recruiting fray last night when they offered Butler a scholarship.
“Well, they are actually on the come up right now and they are making a name for themselves becoming a top 25 school so I like that a lot about Minnesota,” Butler explained.
Butler and his MEBO teammates are in Los Angeles this weekend for the fourth session of the EYBL.
