Unsigned Gems: Cincinnati
With the grassroots/AAU season upon us, it is easy to forget that there are many talented players from the class of 2017 still looking for a home at the next level. This year’s class was so loaded with talent that many players with all league, state, and district type status are still on the board. With that being said let’s take at some players from Southwest Ohio who are still looking for a collegiate home.
Torrey Patton 6’3, G, Trotwood Madison – It is hard to believe that this 2x all state performer and 2x D-II Player of the Year just received his 1st D-I offer a month ago. After an outstanding performance state championship weekend, Akron offer the combo guard March 27th and since that time the offers have started to roll in. Patton is a strong guard who will be able to play either guard spot at the next level. He finishes well at the rim with both hands and is not afraid of contact in the paint while also possessing a nice jump shoot that will only get better over time. Torrey announced on Twitter on April 18th that he will make his college decision on April 25th. Wright State, Miami (OH), Duquesne, Akron and Robert Morris are all on the list for this talented guard.
Malek Green 6’5, W/F, Cincinnati Taft – One of the top rebounders in the state of Ohio, Green has been getting a lot from low major D-I programs for the past couple of years. The senior holds offers from Stony Brook and Morehead State along with interest from Northern Kentucky University. Not only is Green a strong rebounder but also runs the court as well as any wing/big that I saw all season. Malek has a very soft touch and a jump shot that with some work can be a solid part of his game in the future. Once he adds to muscle to his frame, Green could be a very productive player at the next level.
Kenny Thompson 6’2, G, Cincinnati Walnut Hills – Whoever this young man commits too will love his effort on the defensive end. The 1st team all Eastern Cincinnati Conference performer uses his length and athleticism to harass opposing guards and to get into the passing lanes. Offensively Thompson is at his best in the open court where he can use his athleticism to finish over and around defenders. An improved mid-range game was also in display at times during the regular season as well. Kenny is getting major attention from D-III/NAIA schools which includes Wilberforce, Ohio Northern and Marietta among others.
Alex Dahling 6’2, G, Summit Country Day – One of the better shooters in the state, Dahling had an outstanding senior year for the Silver Knights. The senior averaged 14.5ppg with a shooting line of 47/46/81. Dahling is a lights out shooter who uses angles very when getting to the rim. As far as post season awards are concerned Dahling was named 1st team All-Miami Valley Conference along with Honorable Mention D-III All-State. Dahling states that he currently holds an offer from D-II Malone University near Canton, OH while also stating that several other D-II programs.
