Top 5 Stock Risers from NCAA Viewing Period Week 1
The first NCAA certified viewing period is always a great chance for guys to raise their profile in front of scouts, evaluators, and college coaches. Several Oregon players took advantage of that opportunity playing in Bellevue, Oakland, Virginia, and Las Vegas. Here are some of the local players who impressed over the weekend.
Jalen Thompson 6’2 Guard (2018/West Linn HS/Elite 24)
Sharp shooting lefty guard impressed at the Pangos Tournament in Las Vegas over the weekend, including hitting the game winning shot against a talented Belmont Shores team from Los Angeles. After his solid play, Thompson is starting to hear from Big Sky programs like Montana State and Eastern Washington.
Kyle Greeley 6’4 Guard (2018/West Salem HS/The Hoop Salem)
No local player improved their stock more this weekend than Greeley. Playing for a short-handed Salem Hoop team in the NorCal Showcase, the talented 2018 guard showcased his basketball IQ and shooting ability on his way to averaging over 34 points per game. The recent Seattle U decommit is now hearing from numerous mid major D1 programs on the west coast.
Jay Elmore 6’1 Guard (2018/South Eugene HS/Team Flight)
The talented 2018 combo guard was the catalyst for a big opening weekend for a talented Team Flight program. Elmore lead the cast of primarily Eugene and Southern Oregon players to a 3-1 record in the NorCal Showcase and cemented his reputation as a priority recruit for small college programs along the west coast.
Kamaka Hepa 6’9 Forward (2018/Jefferson HS/Portland Basketball Club)
The #1 ranked player in Prep Hoop Oregon’s class of 2018 rankings and a consensus Top 50 guy at the national level provided poise and experience for an overwhelmed Portland Basketball Club 17U team playing in their first Nike EYBL event. As the team settles in to the big time environment, look for Hepa to only cement the wide range of high level D1 offers he already possesses.
Boston Thompson 6’9 Post (2018/Nyssa HS/Team Jones)
The 6’9 post may be the biggest unknown in the state of Oregon. Thompson plays at Nyssa HS, a small 3A school on the Oregon-Idaho border and has gone relatively unseen by most college coaches and scouts in the Northwest. That all changed this weekend, when he had a breakout performance at the Northwest Premier Showcase in Bellevue. Thompson is already receiving contact from several schools, primarily NAIA & D2 programs.
