TJ’s 10 Who Impressed on Saturday: Part II
Logan Wolf (2019), 6’4 G, Iowa Barnstormers 16U
I was blown away at the progression in Wolf’s game, he was not only key to the Barnstormers’ win over D1 Minnesota, but he was maybe the best player in the second half. He’s got some nice size, and always has, but his handle and ability to get to the hoop and finish was remarkably better than last summer. His toughness was a nice bonus.
PJ Rundquist (2019), 5’9 G, Iowa Mavs Purple 16U
One of the most fluid and effortless shooters in the state, Rundquist lets it fly with confidence, and rightfully so. He was cool and collected down the stretch against Wisconsin RAP, and nearly willed his team to a victory with some clutch triples late. He’ll be one of Iowa’s best scorers the next two seasons.
Mosai Newson (2019), 6’5 PF, Iowa Mavs Purple 16U
Big-bodied and active post, Newsom is one of those guys that has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He uses his size well to carve out space in the paint, and finishes well around the rim. He’ll be key in filling the Austin Phyfe void next season for the G0-Hawks.
Ryan Miller (2018), 5’9 G, Iowa Prep 17U
I was utterly impressed with his game today against Wisconsin Academy. He’s always been a sharpshooter, and he was today too, but his handles and ability to blow by his man were very evident. Miller is a more complete player than I ever gave him credit for, he’ll be due for a bump in May’s new rankings.
Jordan Magnani (2018), 5’11 G, Iowa Prep 17U
What an impressive combo-guard this athletic Mount Pleasant product is. He’s a smart player who never forces and passes well. He picks his shots wisely, and always gets the best look he can. It’s no wonder the Panthers have had so much success the past two seasons.
Alec Oberhauser (2018), 6’5 G/F, Iowa Prep 17U
Big and long with a versatile skill-set, this Aplington-Parkersburg wing was flashing a butter stroke from deep in his team’s shellacking of Wisconsin Academy. He nailed three first half triples, and used his height and length to disrupt defensively. A solid player for a solid team.
Zach Martinek (2019), 6’4 G, Iowa Prep 17U
Good-sized guard who had a fantastic sophomore season at West Fork, and is playing up with Iowa Prep this spring and summer. Martinek is clearly still adjusting to the speed and strength of the older guys, but when he figures it all out, he’ll be a very dangerous player at this level, and will be better off next winter because of out.
Cameron Soenksen, 6′ Camanche, Iowa Barnstormers 15U
We first discovered this electric guard at the state tournament last month, where he was at times dazzling for 2A Camanche. Today, he showed those same glimpses of electrifying play; at one point hitting back-to-back triples, and netting 14 first half points and four first half 3s during a 22 point win over Greenwood Elite.
Masen Miller, 5’11 SG, Iowa Barnstormers 15U
Another sharpshooter on the Barnstormers’ 15U roster. He was responsible for three of the 11 first half 3-point makes against Greenwood Elite. When Miller and the rest of the snipers are rolling, these ‘Stormers will be near impossible to beat.
Jake Hilmer, 5’10 PG, North Linn
It doesn’t matter how much bigger his opponents are than him, Hilmer will almost always find a way to win his battles. It’s his supreme speed and quickness that make him a cut above the rest; but he’s smart player too, and still has room to develop with his skill-set. He could be scary good a year from now.
