Recruiting Report: Trendon Hankerson (2018)
Novi 6-foot-3 guard Trendon Hankerson has grown considerably over the past 12 months — from 5’8 to 6’3 — and Division I schools have taken notice.
Several Midwestern colleges have reached out to Hankerson, Michigan’s 64th-ranked 2018, and he mentioned two which are on him the most.
“I have a lot of interest, from Toledo, Wisconsin-Green Bay, that’s where my brother goes, Cleveland State, Northern Illinois, IPFW,” said Hankerson.
“I’d probably say IPFW and Toledo are coming after me the hardest.”
He said the goal for this summer is to build relationships with college coaches, so that will make his potential decision easier.
“I’m just hoping to get closer to some of the coaching staffs,” he said. “And really just try and get to know them, so that I’m comfortable making a decision when and if that time comes.”
In addition to his added height, Hankerson says his his build is starting to improve, along with his guard skills.
“I’ve been getting stronger, and as I’ve grown, I’ve been trying to get into the weight-room more. We have a really nice facility at my high school, so our coach tries to get us in there as much as he can,” said Hankerson.
“And I’ve been working on my game every day, especially my ball-handling and my shooting, and that has come a long way since my freshman year.”
This past season as a junior with the Wildcats, Hankerson was second on his team in scoring, and led the team in assists,
“My role was to be a leader as point guard,” he said. “I was captain of the team and started every game, and just tried to help my team get some wins.
This spring and summer, he’ll be running with the Detroit Spartans, and says the goal is to win games and get exposure.
“I’m really hoping to get some more looks and pick up some offers from college coaches. And I’m still looking to develop my game in ways that need to be developed,” said Hankerson.
“I hope to win some tournaments, and the Powerade Platform has an all-star game, I’m really hoping to make it into that.
