Recruiting Report: Shandon Brown (2018)
Sometimes the best point guards can impact a game without scoring. That’s exactly what Shandon Brown prides himself on. The class of 2018 point guard from the New Hampton School helped lead BABC to a 3-1 record during EYBL Session 1 in Hampton, and got the attention of a few college coaches in the process.
“I’m just a point guard that can change the game without scoring. I don’t have to score 20 points. I can control defense. I can make it hell for the other guard for the whole 40 minutes of the game.”
Brown led a tenacious defense by applying tremendous pressure on the ball, and racked up 1.5 steals per game. He also dished out four assists per contest, and shot over 87% from the foul line.
“I need to work on my percentages as far as late in the shot clock. Making sure that number stays up,” said Brown about his areas of focus for improvement. “Doesn’t look good if I’m 1 for 5 in late shot clock. Improving on when the shot clock is going down getting a good shot.”
Brown is a 3.7 student. He listed offers from Yale, UNLV, Marquette, Rutgers, Boston College, Boston U, and Lehigh. Quinnipiac, George Washington, William and Mary, UMass, and Oklahoma State are the latest schools to offer Brown scholarships and begin actively recruiting him.
“I’m a floor general. I get my teammates involved. Make sure everybody is on the same page,” said Brown about his playing style. He’s also worked hard to improve these areas of his game. “Being able to play in a physical game. Getting bigger, more explosive. Knocking down open shots when I get them.”
Brown understands that eventually basketball is gonna come to an end, and is considering academics in his college decision. Being able to use what he learned in school, but somewhere he can compete on the highest level. What can a college program expect from Brown?
“Definitely leadership right away.”
