Recruiting Report: Ryan Davis (2018)
Conant post Ryan Davis is a 6’9” center with a thick body that is among the best centers in the state of Illinois in the class of 2018. He had a quality junior campaign at Conant. The space eating center flashes potential on the block including a hook shot. The area of his game that has improved the most is his shooting. Davis has shown grown as a pick and pop shooter and hitting shots off the catch. Would like to see him be a more dominant rebounder considering his size. Davis is a low-major prospect.
He chatted with PHI about his junior campaign.
“I think it went well late in the season. We came together and knew what we wanted to accomplish. We lost a tough game at the end. I thought we played hardest, but sometimes shots don’t fall. When I felt I was needed or I needed to step up I felt I did that. I played well in the post and extended my range outside. I feel I grew most being able to step outside and shoot from the perimeter. My ball handling still needs to get better.”
With the graduation of seniors Jimmy Sotos and Michael Downing this will be his team next season.
“I have to step up as a leader. Jimmy was a big leader for us. I think we have a good team and we should be a good unit together as a whole. We have some stuff to improve on.”
Davis is running with Wisconsin Playground Warriors on the grassroots circuit. He is looking forward to his last run on the summer scene.
“The competition and compete against some good teams. We have got good players on our team and a lot of shooters.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“Still talking to UAB, Wright State, Kent State, and South Dakota. Keeping up with them.”
Wright State and Kent State have both extended early scholarship offers. What does he like about Wright State?
“I saw them play UIC. They are a good team with a strong post player. I like how they run their offense and they get up and down on defense playing physical.”
He chatted about Kent State as well.
“They have good guard play and shooters up there. Several drivers and slashers. I think they need a big guy that can crash the glass.”
He says he wants to see both up close soon.
“I want to visit Wright State and Kent State in the spring.”
What will he be looking for in a program?
“A team where I fit in and can help them win. Get the furthest and achieve my goals.”
Davis tells us what he feels he will bring to a team at the college level.
“I can bring a lot of versatility as a big man that doesn’t just play on the post, but can play on the perimeter as well.”
