Recruiting Report: Joey Edmonds (2019)
One of the best games we saw this past postseason was between Cincinnati Wyoming and Dayton Dunbar. Lonnie Grayson and Caleb McConnell both had incredible performances, proving why they’re future Division I players. But also, there was this 5’11” point guard from Wyoming, a 2019 prospect named Joey Edmonds. Caught myself saying, wow, this kid can play with anybody on this floor right now.
Not only does Edmonds exude confidence on the court, he’s very skilled and poised. Truly one of the best point guard prospects in his class.
Edmonds ended up with 16 total points (5-13 shooting, 4-9 from three) in a 66-56 loss to Dunbar. Even so, it was a memorable performance from a young player, who we’re sure will only continue to grow going forward.
Being just a sophomore, Edmonds is only seeing initial interest from Findlay, Ashland, and Army West Point.
“A lot of D-IIs are starting to contact me. Getting invited to their elite camps and all that stuff,” Edmonds said.
“I worked out for Army West Point before … My teammate, Lonnie Grayson, is going there next year. So it would be nice to play with him again,” Edmonds said.
Edmonds said he’s looking for a good education, but doesn’t really know what exactly is important to him as far as schools go. He’s simply soaking it in right now.

As time goes on, Edmonds will continue to build on the little bit of interest he’s seeing currently. It would be shocking if there aren’t many scouts/coaches who would like Edmonds to lead their team on the court. As mentioned, he is a very confident player, which he credits to his work ethic. Furthermore, he’s a willing passer that happens to be a huge scoring threat, mainly via the three-point shot.
“I make my teammates around me better. I’m a pretty good shooter. I create for other guys. I can get my shot when I want,” Edmonds said.
He went on to tell us what he’d like to improve by saying, “I’ve been working a lot on my mid-range game. Pulling up and finishing at the rim a little better for next year … Full-court defense, because that’s a big aspect of the game at the next level.”
Edmonds averaged 14 points (shooting splits of 50-44-84) and 5 assists as a sophomore. He also carries a 3.93 GPA. He plans on taking the ACT next year.
You can watch Edmonds in action this summer with the Cincy Lakers.
It should also be mentioned that Edmonds plays football for Wyoming, but told PHO that he will play basketball in college.
