Recruiting Report: Everette Hammond (2017)
St. Vincent Pallotti recently concluded their second season being apart of the MIAA A Conference. The adjustment to playing in arguably one of the best conferences in the country takes time, but luckily the Panthers had Everette Hammond to lead the way.
Hammond averaged 18 points as St. Vincent Pallotti finished with a 12-17 overall record. Throughout an incredibly tough schedule that included tournaments at Gonzaga and Bullis (both which Hammond made All-Tournament Team Honors), Hammond constantly displayed his ability to lead the team on both ends of the floor.
Defensively, Hammond prides himself in being a pest against his individual match up. He believes the strongest aspect of his game is being able to guard the other team’s best perimeter player and making them earn every point.
Offensively, Hammond’s ball handling allows him to handle pressure from the defense. The 6’3 combo guard can really shoot it both off the dribble and off the catch. Another part of Hammond’s game that makes him a valuable asset is his basketball IQ. The little things of when to make the extra pass, when to attack gaps by putting the ball on the floor, and other inklings that make a complete player is what Hammond offers.
Hammond told me earlier this week that he will be doing a post graduate year at St. Thomas More in Connecticut, a prep school with plenty of notable alumni with the most popular being Detroit Pistons’ Andre Drummond. Until he leaves for school in late August/early September, he will be playing with DC Premier for the AAU circuit. The main focus for Hammond not only this offseason, but when he is at St. Thomas More is developing his body so his transition to the college game can be seamless.
Hammond holds seven offers from schools including Siena, American, Canisius, Quinnipiac, Farleigh Dickinson, and Robert Morris. George Mason and a few other A-10 schools have expressed interest in him as well. Hammond has a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
