Recruiting Report: Davantre Vitor (2017)
Davantre Vitor is coming off of doing something that no one has done in 30 years, lead a historic Washington Marion basketball team to a state championship. And according to Vitor, that was a dream come true. “I think this is the best way you can end a senior season. I can’t see it getting any better than this.” It was a magical run all season this year, and Davantre thinks the reason why is because of their chemistry. “The bond we have is amazing. I feel like we were blood brothers honestly.”
But Davantre is just being humble. In reality, he is the biggest reason that they won the state championship this year. At any point in time when they needed it, the 6’1 guard was able to put the ball in the basket. One on one, Vitor is nearly unstoppable, as shown by his multiple 30+ point explosions this season. and with his athleticism I think that skill will translate to the next level. He was one of the most dominant scorers in the state this year. However, Vitor has spent the last year focusing on expanding his game, so that it won’t be so one-dimensional. “I knew my role for the team was going to be a big key, so I spent the offseason working on my decision making, like knowing when to shoot and when to pass, reading my opponent’s defense. I just want to be an extension of our coach on the floor, and my confidence grew as the season went on.”
Davantre might have ended his senior season as high as he possibly could, but he isn’t ready for his playing career to be over just yet, and he is still working just as hard as ever to make his goal of playing at the next level a reality. “I want to get better at everything. I don’t want to single anything out. I feel like there is room for improvement in every area of my game. I just have to put in the work.” And around the state, Davantre’s work-ethic is very well known.
The biggest thing that has kept college coaches from snatching Davantre’s talent up already is that he just recently took the ACT for the first time, but he feels confident in the test. Davantre says that he is willing to travel in order to be able to play at the next leve.
