Recruiting Report: Corey Walker (2020)
2020 forward Corey Walker thrived in his first varsity season at Bishop Snyder.
The 6’6″, 205-pounder averaged 16.4 points and 11 rebounds per game as the Cardinals went 15-12 which included a one-point loss to P.K. Yonge in the Class 4A region semifinal.
Walker had 10 or more points in all but four games on the season. He dropped a career-high 45 points on 15-of-20 shooting from the field along with 21 rebounds in a win over Ridgeview. Walker had five games with 20 or more points.
He called his freshman campaign a learning experience as Bishop Snyder brought in a lot of new players and to work through the kinks.
Walker says he learned leadership the most from his debut varsity season.
“We didn’t have a leader on the team and it was basically about who was going to do something about it,” he told Prep Hoops Florida. “So I stepped up.”
Walker reminisced about the opening night loss against Providence. He says he knew some players on the team, so it was a little nerve-racking, but as the game got going, it was better for him.
“At the end of the season, I was very confident in my game,” Walker said. “I think that’s when I started playing better.”
For Bishop Snyder, he’s the jack of all trades. Walker plays point guard, small forward and center for the Cardinals.
This summer he’ll be running with Game Elite for the second straight year. They’ll be using him at power forward where he’s focused on winning more games, getting his ranking up and doing better as a player and leader.
He says he’s the most comfortable at power forward and small forward and will play wherever the coaches ask him to play.
Walker started playing basketball at age 4, learning from his dad, a former coach at Pedro Menendez.
He pointed to his biggest strengths as his mid-range shot and ability to get to the basket. Walker is looking to improve his ball handling skills and lateral quickness.
Currently, he holds three offers from UMass, North Florida and UNC-Greensboro. Walker has also drawn interest from Florida State and Florida.
He’s very thankful for his coaches, his parents and younger brother. A humble and hardworking kid, Walker is on the rise in the class of 2020 here in Florida. He’s very long and athletic. Right now, he’s looking to impact the game in every way that he can. He’ll be the heartbeat of Bishop Snyder once again in the fall.
