Recruiting Report: Charles Robinson III (2018)
Charles Robinson III (2018), a 6’0” guard, has been a force around the basket for the Ohio Celtics to start the grassroots season. We’ve happened to see the Ohio Celtics 17u team quite a bit during the early part of this grassroots season, and Robinson III continually impresses us with his length, competitiveness, and scoring ability.
“I’ve been playing good. But I haven’t played to my full potential,” Robinson III told us.
What surprised us most in the interview with the Toledo Woodward prospect is that he’s only 6-foot even. Given his long arms and athleticism, Robinson III can be found defending the rim like a center sometimes for the Celtics. He does a competent job of it also, routinely forcing forwards into odd angles on lay-up attempts.
Robinson III sees no problems with it. In fact, his past experiences have prepared him for this type of defensive responsibilities.
“My former coach, for Glass City, he had me holding older, bigger guards and littler guards. So I got used to holding all five positions.”
Also, as mentioned, his arms are long. Robinson III’s arms are that of a 6’3” person, giving him a nice defensive tool that also helps on the dribble drive offensively.
“I think what I’m really good at is rebounding and finishing around the paint,” Robinson III said.
As validation to that personal assessment, Robinson III averaged around 17 points and 9 rebounds as a junior for Toledo Woodward.
The programs who have reached out to Robinson III are awaiting his ACT score.
“I haven’t took my ACT yet. So they weren’t able to, like, keep calling yet and stuff because I haven’t taken my ACT yet,” Robinson said.
Robinson III, who carries a 2.1 GPA, plans on taking the ACT this summer.
PHO could foresee a situation where Robinson III thrives at a Junior College after high school. We’re excited to see how his career continues, as he’s one of the better under-the-radar players in Ohio. Once teams continue to get looks at Robinson III, interest will continue to swarm. But, as Robinson III would attest to himself, it’s all about the ACT score for the time being.
