Recruiting Report: Ahren Freeman (2019)
2019 Ahren Freeman moved over to Providence last off-season and it paid dividends.
The 6’6″, 220-pounder was a key starter for the Stallions state title run. Providence finished 25-6 and fell to Westminster in the Class 4A state championship. He was previously at Bishop Snyder.
Freeman said his first season at Providence went very well.
“I was a starter the entire season as the only sophomore on the team and I was the third leading scorer,” Freeman told Prep Hoops Florida. “The thing I learned and am still learning how to do is to play with a really high motor. Coach [Jim] Martin constantly told me that I have great IQ and skill for my age but sometimes I didn’t have that energy that a lot of people wanted to see.”
He also pointed to assistant coach Brian Hoff and his teammates Kyle Marion, Zack Bryant and Jacorie Archie as on the court coaches. Freeman says if he wasn’t playing well, they always had his back.
Freeman is playing for E1T1 16U this summer after suiting up for the Jacksonville Tigers from 5th to 9th grade. He started his basketball career playing for the Tigers.
He says he’s focused on his guard play right now.
“I can get to the basket with ease but to complete my game my jumper needs to be improved,” Freeman said. “This way if my defender sags off me I can knock a few in his face.”
Freeman called his athleticism, strength and IQ, his best attributes.
“I feel like to be a complete player you have to be able to make plays for yourself and teammates so that’s why I pride myself with my IQ,” he said.
Currently, Freeman has one offer from FGCU.
He’s already showing off his ability to get to the rim with ease and at his size, he’s a lot bigger than most players his age. Running with E1T1 this summer will help him get noticed and with his talents, he should earn some offers by the end of the travel season.
Freeman is a determined player with a ton of upside. His experience as a sophomore playing as a starter and being a leader is huge for his progression.
