South Eugene’s Jay Elmore a 6’2″ 180 pound guard that plays the 1 or 2 was a big factor to the success of South Eugene’s 2017 season. Elmore has great shooting abilities, breaking the all time school records in 3 pointers made and free throw percentage, along with being 1% away in overall field goal percentage from 40-50-90 from the field. Elmore also was third on his team in rebounding at 5 rebounds per game, and lead the team in steals.
Head Coach Dave Hancock said “When Jay gets going he’s very hard to slow down. Defenses last year threw everything at him, box and one, full deny, nothing worked. He was in double digits every game.”
The junior wing will be playing with Team Flight out of Southern Oregon this spring and summer. Elmore also has a great work ethic, getting in the gym everyday before school, at lunch, and at night along with training sessions with former Oregon player Ben Voogd.
Elmore had a break out season as a junior, averaging 19 points and winning Player Of the Year in his South West Conference, as long as honorable mention all state. Elmore will be transitioning over to point guard next season and will have the ability to average around 25 points and at least 5 assists.
Elmore said, “Next season I am moving over to point guard and will have the ball in my hands more. I’m going to look to attack and score or find a team mate every possession. Elmore’s South Eugene Axemen were invited to the Les Schwab Invitational, and Elmore “wants to show the state that my team can compete with anyone and everyone.” Jay Elmore is a sleeper in the state of Oregon and will look to be one of the top 6A players next season.
