Prospect Spotlight: Ernie Sanders (2020)
Currently Michigan’s 9th-ranked 2020, 6-foot-3 wing Ernie Sanders is well on his way to becoming another D1 prospect from the state.
A slasher with good size for a frosh, Sanders defined his playing style to PHMI.
“I just like to attack the hole, play defense and be a team player, not be selfish out there on the court, and do whatever I need to to help my team win,” said Sanders.
“My strength is taking it to the hole and finishing above the rim. I’ll need to improve on my ball-handling, that could get a little better.”
As a freshman with Flint Beecher, Sanders came off the bench to help his team achieve the ultimate goal: a Class C state championship — the school’s third straight.
“I thought I played good, and my role was to come off the bench and provide some good minutes for the starters who needed a blow. And I just needed to help play defense, rebound and score the ball as well,” said Sanders.
“I’m happy with the way I played as freshman, and my goal for next year is to be a team player and lead my team to try and win another state championship.”
But before that, he’ll spend his spring and summer with The Family’s 15U squad.
“I’m trying to get my defense good for the high school season,” said Sanders. “And I’m just hoping to get some colleges looking at me so hopefully I can pick up some offers, hopefully some big school offers.”
