Prospect Spotlight: Donavan Moore (2019)
Hillsboro guard Donavan Moore is one of my favorite players in the 2019 class. We already have him in the top 15 and he should make a run at the top 10 in the next update. Moore has an angular body with super long arms. Slippery through traffic getting skinny on his drives to the hoop. Gets in the lane at will! Pull up jump shooter from mid-range that shoots it balanced and with quality form. Showed the point guard skill early this spring we thought he had the potential to develop. Still makes some mental mistakes now and then, but has definitely improved. Mid-major to low-major prospect.
Moore is running with the Illinois Irish on the grassroots circuit this spring. This is his first chance to be seen on a bigger stage against high level players.
“We are playing hard. We have been playing great so far. It is a lot of competition out here. It is hard to get into the lane on offense. Everybody is playing defense.”
What does he see as his role on the Irish 16U squad this spring/summer?
“Someone who does everything. Assists, rebounds, and scores the ball.”
Moore spoke about the strengths in his game at this stage in the process.
“Probably getting to the bucket and rebounding.”
The 2019 broke out last fall at the PrepHoopsIllinois showcase, but wasn’t able to show his immense ability on the high school level as he struggled with injuries.
“I fractured my toe and I tried coming back to fast so I messed my hip up so I decided to sit out the rest of the season. I only played two games.”
Nothing major going on with recruiting at this point. Expect Moore to emerge as a coveted mid-major target over the next 18 months.
