Prospect Spotlight: Cameron Walker (2018)
Cameron Walker is a two-sport student-athlete who can do wonders with the rock.
At 5’10”, 160 pounds, the Valwood School junior and Upward Stars guard attacks the paint like few others. His defense is stout—what Cam misses in height, he gains in strength. The rebounding skills are there with his ability to get around the bigs to leap and snatch the ball.
According to Cam, most of his positive play comes from just good ol’ effort and hustle. It doesn’t have to be flashy with Walker. Combine Walker’s desire to win, how he finishes at the rim, and the D, and you have a catalyst for a great player to emerge out of the summer.
While being honest with himself, Cam admitted a goal of becoming a better free throw shooter, as well as a jumpshooter. This is one of the main facets of his game he’s aiming to focus on this AAU season. As of right now, he models his scrappy play after the likes of Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox. Walker has an above-average floater game, similar to Fox.
Though he’s currently getting looks from football programs, nothing for basketball has come his way. We think he’s more than capable of attracting some heads, especially if he can improve his jump-shooting over the next three months. Cam has the drive to make it happen.
