PrepHoops Route 66 Kickoff: Top Rim Protectors
PrepHoops Route 66 Kickoffs: Look at Saturday’s top Rim protectors
Joe Cortesio, 6’7, 2017, Christian Heritage, Oklahoma Wolfpack
Long, lanky, rangy player that exhibity good timing blocking shots around the bucket. He’s an unsigned senior out of Del City, Okla. Needs to get stronger, but did a good job protecting the basket in the games we watched.
Cecil Lee, 6’6, 2018, Kansas City Pacers
One of the more explosive defensive players we saw throughout the weekend. He is an incredibly versatile defender with the ability to move his feet on the perimeter and cover up players with his length and athleticism and is capable of mixing it up in the paint with bigger, more physical players as well. But where he excels is weak side shot blocks.
Andre Luiz, 6’9, 2018, Sunrise, Kansas Pray N Play
He was as impressive an interior defender as we have seen in the first two days of the Route 66 Kickoff in Oklahoma City. He is a strong, physically gifted athlete with size and a basketball frame. He anchors the defense in the paint for Kansas Pray N Play and while his offensive game is not quite a finished product, he is an explosive dunker with the ability to catch and finish with authority.
Ndongo Ndaw, 6’7, 2018, University, Oklahoma Power
Even in limited minutes off the bench, Ndaw made an impact at the defensive end. He is raw at the offensive end, but a capable interior defender who challenges shots and makes life difficult for opponents around the bucket.
Dalton Vincent, 6’8, 2018, Henessey, 3D Athletes OKC
Might not a prototypical selection for a rim protector, but Vincent is largely the player in the middle of the 3D Athletes’ defense with the most size at 6’8 and is an athletic and active player capable of making plays at the defensive end of the court. He combines his size and length with mobility and has the ability to play all over the court. Offensively, he brings some skill to the table and is a well-arounded player.
