Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff: All-Tournament Team (17U)
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Mason Alexander, 6’0, 2018, McPherson, Kansas Pray N Play
He and Mike Johnson formed a tough 1-2 point guard punch in the Pray N Play backcourt, Alexander can handle the rock and shoot from long distance and mid-range. It was largely his play in the championship game that helped rally his team to a win over the KC Pacers. He knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the second half and fished with 21 total.
Diego Bernard, 6’0, 2018, St. Joseph Lafayette, KC Pacers
One of the tournament’s fastest players with the ball, Bernard is a burner with the ability to go end-to-end with elite speed. He has improved his outside shooting and is a knock down shooter at the free throw line as well. He has drawn a lot of college interest from Division II programs.
Joe Cooper, 5’11, 2019, Memphis Magic
Really liked this kid’s game, he’s a tremendous athlete and has all the tools to be a good D1 guard. Can really handle the ball and make plays. He gets into the lane at will and drops off nice passes. Cooper is also one of the most creative finishers around the rim you’ll see and combines it all with a warriors competitive attitude.
Ray’Shawn Dotson, 6’6, 2017, Texas Tigers
He’s a skilled forward, a long slender player that is capable of mixing it up in the paint as well as step out to the 3-point line and stretch the floor with a smooth outside shot. He had some big games in the tournament, including a 32-point game on Friday.
Jon’il Fugett, 2018, George Washington, Colorado Hawks
Smooth point guard that is quick off the dribble and able to attack the bucket. Had 16 points in the second half against the KC Pacers in a loss as he tried to rally the squad from a big deficit.
Clay Gayman, 6’6, 2018, Nevada, KC Pacers
Had a big tournament and raised his profile even more in OKC. Gayman had 19 points in the championship game and led the Pacer squad through a tough field all the way to the finals, including 20 points in an impressive win over a talented Colorado Hawks squad. He is a skilled forward capable of posting up, shooting the 3 and attacking the bucket. But it is a non-stop motor that impresses. He is always grinding, always competing and never gives up on a play.
Mike Johnson, 6’0, 2017, Sunrise, Kansas Pray N Play
Easily one of the top guards in the field, Johnson had several big games and showed off an all-around skill set that helped lead Pray N Play all the way to the finals.
Daylen Kountz, 2018, Denver East, Colorado Hawks
One of the most talented players in the field, Kountz showed off the skills that has made him a high major recruit. He can handle the ball, get to the bucket and is a knock down shooter.
Austin McCullough, 6’5, 2017, Greenwood Elite
He’s a kid with good size and a smooth outside jumper with range. He hit some big shots throughout the weekend late in games. He is a terrific wing scorer that is currently drawing a lot of Division II interest.
Marko Rajonovic, 6’6, 2018, Sunrise, Kansas Pray N Play
He was one of the better players we saw throughout the weekend, a true 3-point shot maker with size, a good basketball frame and the ability to attack the bucket off the bounce and finish in traffic. He is also a skilled passer and showed the ability to bring an all-around game to the court.
Ben Pyle, 6’6, 2018, McPherson, Kansas Select
Pyle is a smooth all-around performer with a nice skill set and nice size as a 6’6 guard. He can shoot the 3, handle the rock, rebounds and makes plays. He is coming off a state championship in Kansas this past season and that success carried over into OKC and has solidified himself as a Division I prospect.
Jabari Rice, 6’3, 2017, FB Marshall, TJ Ford Houston
Really impressed with Rice’s game, he has all the moves at the point guard position. Has a smooth game that seemingly is always under control and can score at all three levels. Is extremely athletic and quick and has the ability to get to the bucket, but can also pull up for the 3.
Mason Webb, 6’0, 2018, Bishop McGuinness, Oklahoma Power Elite
Was an impressive player throughout the weekend and showed he certainly has a place in the college game. Can shoot it, attacks the bucket well and is a good all-around player. Webb recently reclassified to the 2018 class with plans to attend prep school next year.
