Oregon AAU Preview: Team Fly 17U
Team Fly is a relatively new program in the northwest, but has quickly made a name for itself as a rising force on the Oregon AAU scene. The program is directed by former Oregon State Beaver Josiah Lake and practices out of The Practice Facility in Beaverton. There 17U team is coached by Jeff Williams who played at Southern Oregon and now works as an assistant coach at Chemeketa Community College. This spring’s version of Fly is made up of players from the classes of 2017, 2018, & 2019.
Arguably the player with the most recruiting buzz for Team Fly is 2019 wing Stevie Schlabach from Tigard HS. The 6’3 perimeter player earned 1st team all league recognition this season and currently sits as the #2 ranked player in his class. Another dynamic 2019 player is Kameron Osborne, a 6’0 guard from Prairie High School in Vancouver. Other back court players for Team Fly are Dyshawn Hobson a 2018 point guard from Corvallis High School. Hobson is game changing perimeter defender who is showing an improved offensive game. Lighting quick Ian Collett, a 5’8 scoring point from Tillamook rounds out the perimeter group.
Team Fly will be one of the bigger teams from the Northwest and feature 6’8 Filip Fullerton, a rapidly improving post from Southridge High School in Beaverton. Fullerton continues to improve his footwork and post moves and looks to evolve into a priority recruit for D2 and NAIA programs in the Northwest. Another inside force for is 6’7 2018 post Matt Van Tassell from Mt. View High School. Van Tassell is an explosive athlete who uses his jumping ability to rebound and challenge shots. Additional front court players include 6’6 Austin Dufort from Tigard High School who possess length and a great feel for the game. The lone 2017 player on the Team Fly roster is 6’8 post Levi Kinkade of Springfield High School, who is a physical post who brings a toughness and rebounding presence to the roster. A potential wild car for the team is the likely addition of talented 6’7 wing Dalton Renne of Banks who can score in bunches and a variety of ways. Renne has baseball obligations that keep him from committing to a full spring schedule.
Team Fly is starting the NCAA viewing period in Oakland at the Norcal Spring Showcase before returning to the Portland area to compete in the Oregon Open Run Showcase April 28th-30th. Prep Hoops Oregon is excited to watch this emerging program and see where they stack up in our “Elite 8” Oregon AAU program rankings.
