Louisville Magic (17u) Undefeated Thus Far
Going into April we knew the Louisville Magic had a roster full of D-1 prospects looking to showcase their ability and skill in front of hundreds of college coaches this “summer”. What we didn’t know at the time…is that this roster plays extremely well together and has been able to win games in both blow-out and down-to-the-wire fashion.
Ellis Myles’ team is undefeated through the first two weekends of the adidas Gauntlet Gold Circuit. PHKY recaps their games and top performances throughout the early events.
WEEKEND #1
The Magic tipped-off Saturday in Dallas playing the Arkansas Hawks, winning 68-57. In that game the world was introduced to Wesley Christian’s Christian Lorng. The 6’10 power forward led the Magic with 17 points and 7 rebounds. When the weekend ended, Lorng had earned a scholarship offer from Tennessee and a handful of interest form other programs. Later that day they defeated “The Firm”, wining 63-43. Benson Lin, also from Wesley Christian, led the Magic with 11 points.
On the last day, Louisville Magic beat a very good Upward Stars program 78-65. David Sloan (2017) shined in the game, scoring 18 points, dishing out 3 assists, and grabbing 2 rebounds. Pulaski County’s Steven Fitzgerald also played well, scoring 11 points. To close up the weekend, the Magic went on to defeat Showtime Ballers 76-59. Chance Moore (2017) led the way with 18 points. Fitzgerald picked up a scholarship offer from Stetson.
WEEKEND #2
Louisville Magic continued it’s hot streak throughout this weekend in Atlanta, but it wasn’t as easy. Showing an ability to handle late game situations and the game coming down to the wire, the Magic defeated Brookwood Elite 52-48 in Saturday’s first game. Chance Moore contributed a nice 12 points and 7 rebounds. Christian Lorng went for 10 and 7, and Anthony Wales (a Samford commit) scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
During the second game, Magic beat Game Point Pump n Run in a close one, 61-58. Chance Moore continued to show out, scoring 17 points and 4 rebounds. Steven Fitzgerald scored 10 points, Anthony Wales had 12, and Benson Lin put in 9 points, each coming from 3-pt land . Not to go unnoticed, Christian Lorng went for 9 points and 9 rebounds against Game Point Pump n Run.
If the game against Game Point Pump n Run wasn’t close enough, it took a Steven Fitzgerald go-ahead bucket in overtime to defeat Team Loaded NC 77-76 early Sunday. Chance Moore WENT OFF, scoring 27 points while grabbing 9 rebounds. He was 10-11 from the FT line. Christian Lorng went for 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Anthony Wales scored 13 points, dishing out 4 assists in the win.
The Magic closed out the weekend with a 78-70 win over Garner Road. Chance Moore did work once again, scoring 21 points and proving that the 2017 prospect is ready to make an impact at the college level now. Lorng had 10 points and 7 rebounds for another very solid performance. Steven Fitzgerald found his stroke scoring 15 points while shooting 50% from the field.
