Intro: Kobe Brents (2020)
Kobe Brents just completed his freshman season at Glasgow High School. Averaging 11.5 points per game, Brents was the team’s third leading scorer and led the team with 47 made 3-pt field goals. The 5’9 2020 point guard had a good showing this past weekend with Team Tae (TN) while competing at the Dru Joyce Southern Exposure event in Nashville. Team Tae advanced to the semi-final game before losing on a buzzer beater. Brents was one of Team Tae’s top performers.
Brents took time to talk to PHKY about his freshman season and what he expects going forward.
“This season was tough, but we never gave up,” said Brents. Including Brents, two of Glasgow’s top leading scorers were freshmen. Brents had an outstanding game against one of the region’s top teams (Franklin-Simpson) and top Kentucky 2017 prospect Tavin Lovan, scoring 20 points and knocking down four 3-pt field goals in the contest. “I played both the point and off-guard positions during the season, so it allowed me to do a number of different things for my team.”
Brents will continue to be an impact player for Team Tae this summer as they compete on the NYBA Elite circuit. What are some of the things he hopes to improve on?
“I really need to improve my strength, and I think that will come with my body maturing and working harder to become stronger.” Kobe is already showing signs of being a good dribble penetration player and someone who can create space for his shot. Getting stronger allow him to do that at a much high level as his high school career continues.
One thing he knows for sure, he plans to be more of a leader for his Glasgow High School team once they step back onto the court next season.
