IndyBall: Top 2018 Performers
This past weekend we spent some time at North Central High School getting into some AAU action. It was a great first weekend and now we are ready to take a look at some of the top players from the event.
Tyler Watson – 6’1 | PG | Tri-West (IN) | Grand Park Premier 2018-Blake
Only got to watch one of Watson’s games but reports beyond the performance I saw were excellent. He’s such a heady, calm point guard and plays with so much energy that it is hard to not like him. He scored the ball pretty well and had his three working for him. The ability to be as a good of a scorer or passer at any time really allows him to be a versatile player for a college.
Robert Phinisee – 6’1 | PG | McCutcheon (IN) | Indiana Elite 2018 –
Phinisee continued his stellar play into this weekend where he had 20 points against Indiana PROS in the Gold Championship Game. He’s gotten taller and stronger and with that has come the motor. He plays really hard all the time and can get out and keep pressure defensively which might be his biggest strength. Going to be a big summer for him.
Eric Hunter Jr. – 6’3 | SG | Indianapolis Tindley (IN) | Indiana PROS 2018
Eric has been good but he might be bordering on great. The athleticism is taking a big jump forward and he put on a display against Team Blaze Select dropping 23 points. Against Indiana Elite he only had 14 but that team had everything working for them. Playing on the Adidas Gauntlet should help with his visibility nationally and could attract more HM programs this summer if he can put up big numbers with consistency.
Musa Jallow – 6’6 | SF | Bloomington North (IN) | Team Blaze Select 2018
Being the best player on a team like Blaze Select 2018 can put a lot of pressure especially when you get into games against really good, stacked teams. Against Indiana PROS, Musa dealt with their size pretty well scoring 15 points and helping to keep the game close. He also put up 20 against IE Trojans and 24 against IE Fastbreak 2019. If he can prove his three-point shot is legit this summer, his stock could take a jump.
Aaron Henry – 6’6 | SF | Ben Davis (IN) | Indiana PROS 2018
One of the players that might be on the verge of jumping up in the rankings not only here but nationally, is Aaron Henry. The 6’6 wing showed why this weekend with a newly refined body that led way to a bit more athleticism and bounce. And when you pair that with his stellar mid-range jumper, he should be pretty coveted in the Midwest and beyond. He had a pair of solid games scoring 16 points against Blaze, 14 against IE 2018.
