Harrell wows coaches
In five years of covering grassroots basketball around the country I have not seen a player who surprises coaches more than Mason Harrell does each time he takes the floor. The size of Mason Harrell at 5’8 instantly has most Division I coaches mentally check him off their list.
But then they watch and by the end of the first half most end up thinking dang this kid is really good. It was funny to hear a whole line of coaches from Division I to Division II level ooo and awe at Harrell’s performance on Saturday. The Adidas UpRising Silver Circuit is where coaches can find Harrell with Gym Time Hoops.
He has all of the intangibles. If Harrell was two inches taller I would be writing this with him already having a couple Division I offers on the table. But he is 5’8. One day soon a coach will take a chance on him and his game due to his production on the court. The efficiency of Harrell is off the charts.
He plays unselfishly at the Point Guard spot with great court vision and a knack for putting the basketball in the perfect spot to set his teammates up for success. Harrell has an extremely high basketball IQ. Scoring the basketball is coming easier than ever to Harrell with the improvement of his three-point shot. Harrell may be 5’8, but he has a finishing ability to score against bigs inside and makes it look easy. He fights through contact and is possibly the best finisher in the Oklahoma 2018 Class.
He surprises coaches each time on the floor because of his motor, high basketball IQ, knack to score and vision. Harrell holds an Oklahoma Baptist offer. The wait for his first Division I offer continues, but I still believe it will come. The production level of Harrell is something no one can argue about.
