Guards to watch this Spring/Summer (2018)
With club season now in full effect, we are going to take a look at some of the best (2018) guards to watch.
Hunter Erickson 6’3 (Timpview, Exum Elite) had a big-time junior season for timpview that included his first D1 offer from Cal State Northridge. Timpview was upset in the first round of the state tournament and Erickson somewhat disappeared in that game. It will be interesting to see how he plays this club season. If he plays at a high level more D1 offers could follow.
Jared Bagley 6’2 (Logan, Exam Elite) players in Cache Valley rarely get the credit they deserve and Bagley quietly had a great season. He was one of the top scorers in 3A. If he is able to have a strong club season I could see him picking up some D2 or low D1 offers.
Jon Parker 6’2 (Uintah, UBC) had a frustrating season playing for an awful Uintah team. Parker was able to show the type of player he was but the spotlight was rarely on him with his team’s record. This club season will be vital for Parker in getting him some D2 and possibly some D1 offers.
David Andrew II (Kearns, Undecided) at 6’5 and great length, has the make-up of a typical D1 guard. Andrew is a big-time shooter who can consistently hit from well beyond the high school line. If he is able to work on the other parts of his game Andrew will be a D1 player.
Josh Sanders 6’3 (Davis, Hard Knox) had a solid year for a good Davis team. His stats were great but that is because of how balanced Davis was. They didn’t have one player average in double figure. Sanders is able to shoot the three and get to the basket well. I see him as a junior college or mid-level D2 prospect.
Steven Ashworth 6’0 (Lone Peak, Lone Peak Reign) had a very impressive junior season for the 5A runners up. Ashworth proved he is the best point guard in the class of 2018. His ability to run his team and get guys in spots is a something a next level point guard has to do. Ashworth is a great shooter from the three and the mid-range. He is low D1 or high D2 prospect.
Max Watson 6’3 (Box Elder, Dream Vision) was one of the top scorers in the entire state. Watson is a big time shooter who can score from the three and the mid-range. His high school team did not have much success which is way the club season is so important. Watson is a lower level D1 prospect and should get plenty of looks playing with Dream Vision.
