EYBL Session 1 Stock Boosters
HAMPTON, VA — EYBL Session 1 is in the books, and many players made strong statements during the first weekend of the live period. Below are ten players who boosted their stock with a consistently strong run of play over the weekend.
’19 COLE ANTHONY | PSA CARDINALS
Rated as the top sophomore point guard in the country by ESPN, Cole Anthony didn’t disappoint as he led PSA to an unblemished 4-0 record. In a highly anticipated with Spice Indy Heat, featuring nationally touted lead guard Tyger Campbell, Anthony hit the game winning shot as time expired in front of Tom Izzo and at least two dozen other college coaches. It’s his second go around on the EYBL, and the NYC native appears ready to lead PSA back to Peach Jam.
’20 HUNTER DICKINSON | 16U TEAM TAKEOVER
Hunter Dickinson more than held his own while leading Team Takeover to the Championship in the 16U division, and was without question the most dominant player whenever he was on the floor. The seven-foot freshman averaged ten points, nine rebounds, six blocks, and four assists in six games. One thing we really liked was how vocal he is on the back line of the defense. Dickinson’s maturity and toughness is very evident at this stage, and he will only continue to get better as he grows into his body.
’18 BRYCE GOLDEN | TEAM TAKEOVER
Bryce Golden had a solid showing vs. Southern Stampede, where he recorded a double double of 12 PTS and 10 REB. The sturdily built 6’8 forward is a high motor, high level athlete who crashes the boards and likes to get up and down in transition. Golden led Team Takeover in rebounding at 6.8 per game, and continues to improve his half court game as well.
’18 LAQUILL HARDNETT | TEAM MELO
LaQuill Hardnett had admittedly been dealing with back injuries earlier this spring, but he appears to be healing well as he had several big time plays on both ends of the floor as a result of sheer hustle. The 6’8 forward led recorded a team-high 1.5 blocks per game, and had a couple of impressive dunks in traffic.
’18 KELDON JOHNSON | BOO WILLIAMS
Keldon Johnson was the best player in Hampton this weekend, as he led Boo Williams to a 4-0 record while averaging a team-high 25.2 points per game, and 9.2 rebounds per game. Johnson attempted just six threes, and converted on 22 of his 29 foul shot attempts. Don’t be surprised to see him make a significant jump in the national rankings.
’18 TAVON JONES | NJ PLAYAZ
“Public school players can play too”, as Linden High School junior Tavon Jones likes to say. The 6-foot-2 combo guard dropped 29 points in a loss to a very good Meanstreets team, and should see an uptick in his recruitment as a result. Jones is crafty with the ball, and a very good paint getter. This was evident as he racked up 25 foul shots in four games.
’19 JALEN LECQUE | SOUTHERN STAMPEDE
6’2 combo guard Jalen Lecque showcased the ability to score at a high level. While on the ball, Lecque demonstrates good paint getting ability, and strength when finishing around the basket. Lecque moves well off the ball, and can shoot the ball very well from the perimeter, both off the catch and from the dribble. The sophomore erupted for 35 points in an opening night defeat to Team Takeover.

’18 NOAH LOCKE | TEAM MELO
Noah Locke was among the most consistent scorers we saw this weekend, and did it from all three levels while showcasing maybe the best floater we’ve seen. Locke shot 45% from three, where he connected on 9 of 20 attempts. Locke averaged a team-best 16.5 points per game on 50% shooting from the field.
’19 CASEY MORSELL | 16U TEAM TAKEOVER
Casey Morsell was definitely a big part of Team Takeover’s run to the championship, and he really got it going with a 20 point effort during a win over King James Shooting Stars on Saturday Morning. Morsell has worked to become a more consistent shooter, and the results are paying off.
’18 COLE SWIDER | BABC
One of the best performances of the weekend belonged to Cole Swider. In a win over Team Takeover, BABC’s 6’8 forward poured in 37 points on 7 of 9 from three, and 13 of 17 overall from the field. The high energy forward is very patient, and doesn’t waste time once he gets to his spot. Swider also led BABC to a win over Team Melo, recording 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
