Capital Hoop Fest Scouting: 2019 Part 1
WASHINGTON, DC — The Elevate Hoops Capital Hoopfest showcased some of the best teams from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at Catholic University on last weekend for a weekend of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part one of our 2019 scouting report!
G JAMES BISHOP | TEAM THRILL
James Bishop did a bit of everything for Team Thrill. Score. Rebound. Block shots. Bishop is super quick, and can stop on a dime and pull up at any moment. The lefty can finish from tough angles, and has worked hard to become a more consistent jump shooter.
G/F RJ BLAKNEY | TEAM MELO
RJ Blakney continues to become more confident, and his production is growing exponentially as a result. Blakney hit several treys this weekend. He also dished out six assists in one game. St. Bonaventure recently offered, and it won’t be surprising to see more schools get involved.
G/F CAMERON BROWN | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Cameron Brown is listed at 6’3, but plays a bit bigger than his listed height. Brown defends in the post, and on the perimeter. He can handle the ball, shoot from the perimeter, create for others, and attack the rim. Brown has a great frame which could continue to fill out in the next two years. Brown has a legitimate shot at a division one scholarship.
G KAMDYN CURFMAN | FAIRFAX STARS 17U
Kamdyn Curfman was the youngest player on his 17U squad, but ran the team like a veteran. Kurfman demonstrated toughness, improved ball skills, and strength. The high IQ lead guard is a very solid defender, and isn’t afraid to take a charge. Curfman is known for his ability to shoot the ball with efficiency, and he’s beginning to expand his overall game from just that.
G QUENTIN JAMES | ARLINGTON ROCKETS
Quentin James is a skilled and shifty point guard who plays with incredible pace. James is learning how to control the tempo, and is getting better at knowing when to pick and choose his spots. The sophomore was very active and alert off the ball defensively, where we saw him take a couple of charges.
G PHILLIP JORDAN | MID-ATLANTIC SELECT 17U
Phillip Jordan played up with the 17U team, and we saw his ability to make shots from all levels. The skilled point guard uses the middle areas of the floor well, and doesn’t need much room to get his shot off.
