Capital Hoop Fest Scouting: 2018 Part 4
WASHINGTON, DC — The Elevate Hoops Capital Hoopfest showcased some of the best teams from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at Catholic University on last weekend for a weekend of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is the final part of our 2018 scouting report!
F NATE ROBERTS | TEAM MELO EYBL
Nate Roberts boasts an extremely long wingspan, and intriguing versatility. Roberts can go from blocking a shot on one end, and take it coast-to-coast for a dunk very quickly. Roberts is an instinctive shot blocker with considerable defensive upside.
F JT SHUMATE | OHIO VILLAGE
JT Shumate is a long & lanky 6’7 forward who can step out and hit the 3, but doesn’t mind doing the dirty work inside either. Shumate has a nice feel for the game, and has the looks of a solid division one prospect.
F DEVON SIMS | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Devon Sims is a defensive specialist, but got into a nice rhythm offensively this weekend. Sims plays bigger than his 6’4 frame, and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work either. Don’t be surprised to see him get stronger as the AAU season progresses.
F ISAIAH SPEELMAN | OHIO VILLAGE
Isaiah Speelman is a very intriguing post prospect with a strong work rate. Speelman is deceptively strong and athletic, and must be accounted for on the offensive glass. The 6’8 forward has excellent touch from the perimeter, but can also score with his back to the basket.
F NATE SPURLOCK | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Nate Spurlock showcased his versatility, athleticism, and high motor throughout this weekend. The lefty is very effective against a zone out of the high post, where he can hit the 15 footer or create easy looks for his teammates. Spurlock actively pursued the boards on both ends of the floor.
G D’ANGELO TULL | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
D’Angelo Tull excelled with his ability to get into the paint and finish or set up his teammates. Tull shot the ball well from the perimeter, and demonstrated the ability to consistently break down his man and create space off the bounce. Tull defended very well on the ball, and was active and alert off the ball.
