Capital Hoop Fest Scouting: 2018 Part 2
WASHINGTON, DC — The Elevate Hoops Capital Hoopfest showcased some of the best teams from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at Catholic University on last weekend for a weekend of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part two of our 2018 scouting report!
C ANTHONY DOUGLAS | FAIRFAX STARS
Biggest difference we saw in Anthony Douglas since the high school season was his improved fitness. The 6-foot-8 big man has always been good with fundamentals, but he isn’t the greatest athlete. Douglas does have a high motor, and an underrated ability to score from multiple areas of the floor.
F DEVON FLOWERS | MARYLAND’S FINEST 17U
Devon Flowers was seen defending guards as well as big men throughout the weekend. The versatile 6-foot-8 forward still needs to get stronger, but you can’t ignore his intriguing blend of athleticism, size, and significant defensive potential.
F LAQUILL HARDNETT | TEAM MELO EYBL
LaQuill Hardnett showcased his versatility operating as a point forward, and rebounding effectively from his position. The talented and skilled 6’8 forward is an instinctive playmaker, and his confidence is improving. When Hardnett is consistently locked in on both ends, he’s a fun player to watch.
F ANTHONY HIGGS | TEAM MELO EYBL
Anthony Higgs has a chance to be recruited at the national level this spring and summer. The 6’9 lefty can stretch the floor beyond the arc, and is a forceful finisher at the rim. Higgs was responsible for a handful of poster dunks this weekend.
G TYLER HOLLEY | TEAM MELO RED
Tyler Holley is an extremely hard-worker, and versatile player that fits into almost any system. Holley is a high IQ player who defends, and is a vocal presence on the floor as well.
G MONTRELL HORSEY | TEAM MELO EYBL
Montrell Horsey is one of the best on ball defenders we’ve seen at the point guard position, and displays ideal toughness for a lead guard. Horsey doesn’t force anything, and is always aware of the time and score. Horsey takes what the defense gives him, and knows how to get his teammates going.
