Tim Carter discusses state tourney, looks towards his senior season
Transferring from Rickards to Tampa Catholic this season, Tim Carter provided the Crusaders with a savvy point guard to lead the charge.
Along with fellow 2018 guards Tai Strickland and Messiah Turner, Carter thrived at his new stomping ground.
Carter averaged 8.5 points per game as Tampa Catholic finished 25-6, ending its season in the Class 5A state final in a loss to Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian on Saturday.
He called his junior season great.
“I loved playing for the guys on the team and the name on the jersey,” Carter told Prep Hoops Florida. “I fit in with the guys very quickly not only on the court but off the court. Winning the semifinals felt great just being in that atmosphere.”
Carter had two double-digit games as a sophomore up in Tallahassee. This season, he took the step forward with 11 games with 10 or more points for Tampa Catholic. Carter recorded 14 points in the state semifinal win over The Villages in a big performance. His 25-point performance against Georgia Westside was his best scoring output.
He says Georgia Southern and Bethune-Cookman are showing the most interest in him right now. Carter should be able to showcase his offensive game even more next season alongside Strickland, Turner, 2020 forward Alijah Harrison, 2020 guard Kobe Knox and 2018 forward Josey Davis.
This is how Carter sees himself fitting in at the next level.
“I would bring a college program a hard worker that loves to grind on the court and in the books,” he said.
With star forward Kevin Knox headed off to college in a couple months, I asked Carter what it was like playing with Knox and how he envisions the team without him next fall.
“Having Kevin on the team was great,” Carter said “It made others teams want to beat us even more just with him on the team. Next year, I still think we have a shot everyone has to better which I believe and I have to be more of a leader.”
