It was a back and forth game until Manual took the lead in the fourth quarter and hit their free throws down the stretch. Manual took the win 51-59 after outscoring Brebeuf 16-9 in the fourth quarter.
Leading scorers: Manual: Courvoisier McCauley 20, Cameron Sembly 13. Brebeuf: Myja White 14, Kobie McNeal 13, Simon Banks 12
Leading rebounders: Manual: TJ Waldon 7. Brebeuf: Kobie McNeal 5.
MVP: Courvoisier McCauley (Manual)
McCauley played really well finishing with 20 points and adding in five rebounds. He had five assists and kept making the right plays to win the game. He played really smart and was a tough task for Brebeuf to defend. McCauley didn’t take that many threes, he just made jumpers and layups all night long.
Best offensive performance: Myja White (Brebeuf)
White led Brebeuf in scoring with 14 points and was really, really good in getting those points by being super efficient. He was 5-of-7 from the floor and four of those came from behind the arc. He was on fire early in the game and just kept hitting every shot he took.
Best defensive performance: Cameron Sembly (Manual)
Playing at a guard spot, Sembly is really long and lanky standing at 6’5. He had a couple steals but overall just played really solid defense. He is really quick and fast to the ball which in turn lets him close out on defense making it tough for opposing teams to hit shots.
Best stat sheet stuffer: Jalen Johnson (Manual)
Johnson started and played really well. He is a sophomore and at times can seem lost but tonight he came up big. He finished with eight points, four rebounds, and an assist.
Play of the Game: It was more of a sequence of plays than anything. Down three, Brebeuf fouled with a minute to go, Manual missed the front end but got the offensive rebound. Brebeuf fouled again, Manual missed again and got the rebound. Then McCauley drained two to make it a five point game.
Best underclassman: Jalen Johnson (Manual)
Johnson controlled the paint all night long and played great on the wing when pushed out there. The sophomore needs to go 100% all the time and he could be really good.
Best under-the-radar performance: Jaron Glenn (Manual)
Glenn was solid inside for Manual because of the size advantage he had. He has a ton of weight and knows how to use it. He had a few assists and a couple rebounds. He finished with nine points after scoring all nine early in the first.
Best clutch scorer: Kobie McNeal (Brebeuf)
McNeal came out on fire in the second half. He was scoreless in the first half but really lit it up in the third quarter. He came out and scored eight points in the first two minutes as Manual was trying to extend their lead out.
Best shooter: Myja White (Brebeuf)
White was 5-of-7 from the field and made his last four three-pointers. He really got his shot off well with the length of Manual in his face all night long.
Best takeaway: Manual moves on to play Attucks on Friday night. This will be the de facto championship. Manual will have to play smart in order to beat Attucks again. They also need to shoot a bit better than this game, but they also go in having beat them already this season.
