Stock Up Showcase: Coach P’s Peeps
Prep Hoops Illinois hosted the Stock Up Showcase this past weekend as over a hundred players showed up to Deerfield at the Joy of the Game to put their game on display. As one of the coaches at the event I’m giving you Coach P’ s Peeps.
Throw it down Fellas
Keeshawn Chambers (Solorio – 2019)
This was Chambers second time at a Prep Hoops event and like the first time he got our attention by trying to Dunk and finish everything around the rim and he did just that. Keeshawn is a budding prospect that hasn’t been in the right situation to have the spotlight on him yet. That could change this spring when he runs with the 16U Meanstreets program. Chambers is raw in the post still but he has an upside with his height and athleticism. In session 1 and 3 he played with energy and a continuous motor. Seemed like any time he got the ball around the rim area he checked to make sure the rims wouldn’t break. Chambers finished with over 10 dunks in the event and has a pretty good future ahead of him.
Ryan Saunders (Joliet Central – 2019)
Ryan played with high energy on Sunday. Always around the ball for missed shots and loose balls. But what caught my attention was his slams in traffic and one highlight dunk that even had the other team jumping up and down. Saunders is versatile not only finishing around the bucket, but he can make a shot or two. Ryan is one to look out for next season.
Chris Burnell (Rockford East – 2019)
Burnell is a wide bodied guard who knows how to play with force and finesse. Chris has am above average handle for a kid with his size and the athletic ability to meet opposing players at the rim. He and teammate Jeremiah Hernandez but on a dunk display during the third session back board lobs and fast break outlets with nice slams to finish the deal.
Jeremiah Hernandez (St. Viator – 2019)
Jeremiah showed his ability to get out on the wing and part the sea as he flew past defenders to put down some pretty finishes at the rim. Hernandez plays hard with a continuous motor and runs lanes really well. He fits any style of play that is up tempo. Should be hearing a lot about him during the spring and summer.
The Man in the Middle
Paul O’Leary (Lemont – 2018)
This biggest prospect at the Prep Hoops Stock Up Showcase was very effective inside. He rebounded well with players hitting him from all angles. Paul took a beating inside, but was focused and finished well over defenders. On the defense side he changed shots often and was a load for players to score on.
Deep From Downtown
Jaxson Dian (Lemont – 2019)
Jaxson was a long range bomber in most games on Sunday. He shot it in many ways off screens and pull jump shots. Dian plays with a lot of fluidity in his game. He doesn’t just rely on his jump shot, he’s a solid passer as well when scoring isn’t an option for him. Jaxson is a basketball player who can become a serious prospect when he makes shots consistently. A player to watch this spring and summer.
Desmond Mulrooney (St. Charles East – 2019)
Desmond shooting performance in the second session did not go unnoticed. He made shots on all three levels for a kid his size. Mulrooney is 5’10 (I’m being generous here) but plays with energy and has a shooting tough that fits his game. He’s not the best ball handler but he doesn’t turn the ball over either. His one major plus is his ability to make shots all over the court. Desmond has a good mid-range game but even better game from long distance. He went on a shooting display for five minutes where he just couldn’t miss. Would like to see more of this from him the next few seasons.
