All-State Tournament Team: Class 5A
A lot of talented players took the floor this past week in Lakeland for the FHSAA state basketball tournament.
Here is the Class 5A all-state tournament team.
1st Team
Jerald Butler (Calvary Christian)
Butler had a very quiet semifinal against Marianna with just six points on 1-of-6 shooting. He struggled with foul trouble early on. However, in the final against Tampa Catholic, the senior Butler commit did everything for his group with a game-high 25 points. He shot 12-of-13 from the free throw line and also brought in 10 rebounds on the afternoon.
Kevin Knox (Tampa Catholic)
After getting blown out of the water by eventual champion Bolles a year ago, Knox came looking for revenge. He is an absolute star, but against the length and athleticism of Calvary Christian, the senior couldn’t do it by himself in the final. Knox had 24 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in his final high school game. He dropped 40 points and 20 rebounds in front UNC coach Roy Williams in the semifinal. Knox is a special talent.
Tre Mann (Villages)
Mann is a 2019 prospect that is already on the rise. Offered by Texas A&M on Sunday night, the Villages guard had 24 points in the semifinal loss to Tampa Catholic. Mann is a quick first step, a dangerous jump shot and a lot of confidence in his tank.
Solomon Uyaelunmo (Calvary Christian)
Much like Butler, Uyaelunmo had a heck of a performance in the final. He scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field in 22 minutes on the floor. This came after a six point outing on 3-of-9 shooting from the field in the semifinal. The junior big man will be highly sought after next season.
