Scouting and Highlights: Jokwani Moore (2018)
Jokwani Moore is a long, athletic point guard for Saginaw Arthur Hill. At 6’1″, he’s slightly undersized, but his length and athleticism more than make up for it. This year, he earned honorable mention all-state for Class A. Look for him to have a strong AAU season and an even better senior season.
Here’s my take on Moore’s game:
Strengths:
Speed – Moore’s elite speed allows him to blow by defenders on the perimeter, as well as play pressure defense in the full-court. His speed helps him make up for being slightly undersized, as it’s tough for bigger defenders to stay in front of him.
Finishing – He’s a tough finisher at the rim. He can finish over or through taller defenders. He gets good hangtime on his jumps, which allows him to double-clutch in air.
Handles – His handles are tight. It’s a rare occurrence to see him get stripped. His handles allow him to create off the dribble for himself or for his teammates. His handles, in combination with his speed, make him a tough matchup on the perimeter.
Defense – His speed and length allow him to get in passing lanes and get deflections or steals. He’s capable of pressuring in the full-court. He does a good job of pressuring and locking up on-ball.
Areas For Development:
Shooting – He’s capable of hitting a catch-and-shoot shot out to the three point line, but his pull-up jumper needs to become more consistent. The ability to pull-up from mid-range will make him a complete player offensively and a legitimate college player.
Weight – This comes with age. Adding muscle mass will benefit Moore in all areas of his game.
