Recruiting Report: Eric Amandio (2018)
2018 point guard Eric Amandio has quickly developed a reliable skill set since coming over to the United States in October 2015.
The 6’3″, 165-pound Angolan native played this past season at West Oaks but will be switching to Impact, per his guardian’s suggestion.
This is what he said he learned from his first varsity season in America.
“To play as a teammate and when you show humbleness and hard work everything goes well,” Amandio told Prep Hoops Florida. “The part of my game that grew the most is my court vision and my defense. My coaches from West Oaks (Kenny Gillion, Diane Neal and Alex Arias) always told me if I improve on this side of it that I’m going to be a good player.”
This summer Amandio will be playing for the Florida Vipers. Last summer, he hurt his ankle and wasn’t able to play travel ball.
“I’m focused on improving my game, getting some good Division-I offers and helping my national team of Angola having a good World Championship in the U19,” he said.
Starting his basketball career at age 6, he says his biggest strengths are his defense, explosion to the rim and court vision. He’s aiming to improve his jump shot this summer.
No offers have come just yet for Amandio, but he has drawn interest from Stanford and Samford. His basketball IQ is through the roof and that was evident on Saturday at the Top Rank Showcase Orlando. He’s quick down the floor, gets his teammates heavily involved and finds space against defenses to score on attacks.
Amandio is a fun 2018 guard to watch. Look for him to be a leader and top scorer at Impact next season. Playing with the Florida Vipers will only further his game.
