Recruiting report: Zach Witters (2017)
One of the Kansas City area’s top backcourts at Shawnee Mission West has seen one-half of the tandem make their college choice.
Zach Witters, 6-foot-1 guard, has chosen to play his college basketball at Doane (Neb.). A smart player who does what it takes to help his team, Witters says he always puts his team first. He averaged 15 points and 4.0 assists per game for the Vikings and helped the squad to a 10-11 season.
He and 2017 guard Mike Hood helped form one of the Kansas City area’s top backcourts this season.
“We had an off and on year this year with some really good wins and some bad losses,” Witters said.
Shawnee Mission West fell in the second round of substate to Olathe Northwest after beating Shawnee Mission South in the first round.
Witters said he chose Doane in part to a relationship he built with the coach and he chose the Crete, Neb. school over another school in Minnesota.
“I chose Doane because I thought it was a good fit for me and I have a good relationship with the coach,” he said. “It’s a school where I can play and enjoy the experience.
“It was really between (Doane) and a school in Minnesota, and this was a better fit for me and my family.”
Witters says he hopes to improve his shooting and get his body physically ready for the next level before he arrives on campus next fall.
