Recruiting Report: Wyatt Poole (2017)
2017 center Wyatt Poole is looking for more after his senior season at Winter Park.
The Chicago native spent last season with the Wildcats lost in the rotation which he said left a bad taste in his mouth. At 6’10”, 208 lbs., Poole plays with fun always on his mind as he can shoot from outside and attack as well.
“It really showed me that no matter how talented the team is that you have to stay hungry,” Poole told Prep Hoops Florida. “With my senior year ending the way it did I’m definitely hungry to help any team get wins no matter where I play at the next level. I really developed my post game and recognized that keeping it simple made the entire game way easier.”
Poole started with Team M.O.A.M this summer, the travel team he’ll run with.
“This summer I’m really just trying to show teams everything I can do,” he said. “Based off my high school film it looks like I can just sit in the post but with just two showcases and one tournament passed by I’ve already put people on notice that I have a complete game.”
He did just that at the Top Rank Showcase Orlando earlier this month. He knocked deep 3’s, attacked and took Santaluces 2019 F Tyler Millor one-on-one a couple of times in a row. It was fun to watch.
Poole started playing basketball in the 7th grade, but admits that he didn’t take it seriously until freshman year of high school.
“Because of having such a late start I really never got a feel for the up north style other than when I played players from that area,” he said.
He pointed to his biggest strength as his ability to mismatch anywhere on the floor.
“So far anybody who I’ve played that’s big enough to handle me in the post can’t keep up with me on the perimeter and vice versa,” Poole said. “I feel that I still haven’t met anybody my size that can control the basketball the way I can which has a lot to do with the fact when I first started playing I played guard.”
Poole said he’s aiming to work on his physical attributes, weight, speed and strength the most this summer.
He says he feels like he is just starting to become the player that he’s capable of becoming. He has interest from Manhattan, Stetson and Tulane along with a walk on offer from FAU.
Talented big men are hard to come by. Poole is a great kid and someone who really plays like a guard with his outside ability. As long as he continues to get stronger he can be a dangerous inside presence. His length is undeniable.
