Recruiting Report: Spencer Touro (2018)
One of Iowa’s most skilled players, Benton guard Spencer Touro continues to rise in the 2018 rankings, currently sitting at No. 31.
In the past, our prospects ranked in the 30-35 range have been NAIA and Division II prospects. Touro has been seeing some Division III interest so far, and says his goal is D2.
“Recruitment has been pretty slow, I haven’t gotten much; Wartburg, and Coe, and Central have been sending me letters. I’ve had a coach talk to me from Wartburg, and I hope to get a lot of exposure this season, because I really hope to play college basketball,” said the 5-foot-10 junior.
“I’d love to play Division II basketball — that’s the goal. But I’d love to play anywhere that wants me, wants to have me. And I’ll just go anywhere where I can play a lot.”
During his junior season with the Bobcats, Touro was sensational, averaging 17.7 points per game on some sterling shooting, while dishing out a team-high 76 assists and 42 steals.
“I’ve been focusing on getting to the rack a lot, because last year I was pretty much just a shooter. The last couple of months I’ve been getting better at attacking the hoop and obviously getting better at the defensive end,” said Touro, who explained his high steals numbers the last two seasons.
“I think I’m pretty smart, I’m not overly athletic, but I just know where to be at the right time. And that’s how I get all those steals.”
This summer, for his 17U season, Touro will play with play alongside Ankeny Centennial point guard Hunter Strait on Team Iowa.
“Hunter and I have been really good friends since middle school,” said Touro. “And I played with Team Iowa before and I really liked it, so I decided to go back.”
