Recruiting Report: Marcus Cherry (2017)
Marcus Cherry worked hard work over the summer to improve his game, and saw positive results over the course of the season. Cherry led South Lakes in scoring (18.8), and failed to score in double-figures just once during his senior campaign.
“I’ve put in a lot of work this summer in my finishing moves, and I believe its paying off,” remarked Cherry, who was named 6A North Second Team.
A self-proclaimed “slasher”, Cherry is very adept at getting paint touches and seeking contact around the basket.
“I also like to shoot a lot of mid-range,” he added.
Cherry lists Shepherd, Wheeling Jesuit, and a handful of Division Three Schools in Virginia among his potential suitors. He plans to visit Wofford of the Big South later this month or early next month as well.
“I would say my rebounding. I love to get on the glass,” replied Cherry when asked what he believes may be underrated about his game. “It’s easy buckets if you get an offensive rebounds or a tip. I’ve had a game with 20+ rebounds. I averaged about 8-10 rebounds per game.”
Cherry admits he needs to continue to improve his three-point shot, but has improved as a finisher around the rim. What can a coach who is recruiting Cherry expect him to bring to their program?
“My hustle. My skill. I play the 2, and I get on the glass really well for a 2. I’m just a hustle player.”
