Recruiting Report: LeAaron Cain (2017)
His senior season may not have ended for LeAaron Cain like he had wanted, but he still had a very impressive year and career for East Ascension. You will be hard pressed to find a more prolific scorer than the 6’2 2017 guard for the Spartans, as he has shown that he can score on all three levels. There has never been any question about Cain’s ability to knock it down from outside, but last season there were some that questioned his ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. This was one of the things that Cain spent countless hours over the offseason to remedy. “I feel like this season I improved on finishing around the basket and finding my teammates.” He showed all this season just how far he has come on those two areas.
The improvements certainly seemed to help, and LeAaron helped lead East Ascension to the number 1 seed in 5A, Louisiana’s toughest classification. East Ascension played one of the toughest schedules in the state, and came out on top more often than not because of Cain. When asked about the biggest difference for the team between last year and this year, he says it started on the defensive end. “Last year our defense was mostly running and jumping, but this year we just stayed solid play man to man.”
LeAaron knows that he still has a long way to go to reach his potential, and he seems to want to try to make the transition to more of a lead guard than an off guard at the next level. “This offseason I want to continue to get better at my ball handling, as well as continuing to understand the game at a higher level.” As far as the next level goes, he doesn’t have any offers yet, but he knows there is still time left. He says that he has been talking to UNO the most as of late, but he understands that he may have to go the JUCO or NAIA route. He doesn’t seem to care as long as he is able to have the opportunity to continue his career at the next level. LeAaron has a 2.4 GPA and scored a 20 on the ACT.
