Recruiting Report: Kyle Greeley (2018) West Salem High School
The last couple of weeks have been a mixed bag of emotions for talented 2018 combo guard Kyle Greeley of West Salem High School. First, he averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists a game to lead the Titans to a 4th place finish in the OSAA 6A State Tournament. The 4th place trophy is the best finish in school history. Greeley who had verbally committed to Seattle University last summer, was flying high, anticipating a spring and summer filled with playing for West Salem and his aau group The Hoop Salem. That plan took a dramatic detour last week when Seattle U made the decision to fire long time head coach Cameron Dollar. After much thought, Greeley decided that reopening his recruitment was the way to go. We caught up with Greeley last week to reflect on everything that has been going on recently.
“What a great feeling the state tournament was, to come together as a group and play our best basketball and really put West’s program on the map. We have so many young guys playing key roles, that the future is bright. We expect to be right back in the same spot next year.” When asked to evaluate his own play in the tournament, Greely replied, “I thought I played well, I shot the ball well, and did the little things that my team needed me to do to be successful.” The conversation turned to his college choice and approach to the recruiting process, “Seattle U and Coach Dollar were such a great fit for me, I loved the school, the program, the whole package, so when they offered last summer it was an easy decision, I thought why wait?” “With Coach Dollar being gone and the uncertainty of what might happen up there, I decided to open up the recruiting process again and see what other options might be available.” Since opening things up, the 6’4 shooter has already heard from Oregon State, San Francisco, and Eastern Washington among others. “I don’t really have any front runners, this whole thing was unexpected. I’m looking for the best fit for me, not necessarily the biggest school from the highest level to offer me. I want to go somewhere that I can play and contribute.” The mature sounding Greeley mentioned a desire to study accounting and that a school with a good program in that area would be a huge thing.
Prep Hoop Oregon Evaluation:
Greeley impressed at the state tournament with his ability to shoot from deep and overall basketball IQ and feel for the game. As he continues to mature physically and adds strength, he will be on the radar of D1 programs from a wide variety of levels. His mature approach to the recruiting process and what he’s looking for in a college are unusual in today’s modern basketball world. We expect him to generate a lot of interest & offers in the coming months.
