Recruiting Report: Elijah Ford (2017)
Elijah Ford possesses so many different attributes that make him a good player, but perhaps the most intriguing is his unselfishness. The 6-foot-7 forward was named defensive player of the year in his conference, but has also made strides offensively since his freshman year.
“I take pride in my defense. This year I’ve stepped up my offensive game,” Ford began. “Averaging more points. And I’m more of a team leader. I’m not selfish. I don’t just look for my shot.”
Chantilly qualified for Regionals with Ford serving admirably as the team’s defensive anchor. While the stats don’t always illustrate his true impact, Ford’s leadership came into play especially in big games.
“We have a couple young guys. I have the most experience. I understand the game the most.”
It’s business as usual for Ford in the classroom as well. He boasts a solid 3.2 GPA.
“I’m down to two schools: Randolph Macon and Randolph College,” said Ford about his recruitment. “I’ll be deciding sometime in March after the season.”
Ford knows he will need to continue to improve on his shooting and explosiveness as he prepares for the next level. What can he bring to a college program?
“Defense when I first get there. Being a leader from the bench if I don’t get minutes right away, and being a good practice player.”
