Recruiting Report: Cameron Tyson (2018)
Washington’s 12th-ranked 2018, Bothell’s Cameron Tyson is heading into his 17U spring with no offers, but plenty of Division I interest.
The 6-foot-3 combo-guard will again play with Northwest Panthers this offseason, and laid out for PHWA which schools have been recruiting him so far.
“I have a lot of interest from mid-major and high-major D1s; Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, Idaho, Seattle, Weber State and schools like that,” he said.
Tyson says he’s been to a couple Seattle University games, and mentioned which schools aside from Seattle are after him the most.
“I would probably say at this point Oregon State, Idaho and Weber State are after me the most,” said Tyson, who is hoping that first offer comes in soon.
“I’m just looking to pick up a couple offers, so I can decide where I’m going to head my next four years after high school, and then take basketball as far as I can.”
Tyson added: “Obviously some of the goals are to pick up more offers, get more exposure and get my name out there a little bit more. And also to just keep on developing as a player; that’s my other goal.”
He’s already a nicely developed player, and with some decent size and better ability, he pieced together one of the finer seasons in Washington this past winter.
“I like to score the basketball; I can score from the outside or pull-up from mid-range, or get to the basket when needed. I’m starting to develop my defensive mentality a little bit more. So, that’s how I’d describe my game,” said Tyson, who can play either guard spot effectively.
“Schools are looking at me for both point guard and shooting guard, but I like playing off the ball more. I’ll do whatever coaches need me to do though.”
He averaged 21.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Cougars during his junior season. But making a trip to tourney was the ultimate and unrealized goal.
“I thought I played OK. My team obviously didn’t make it to state, so I feel like that falls on my shoulder,” he said. “I thought I had a pretty good season though, I was the leading scorer in the conference.”
