Prep Hoops takes a look at some news and notes this week from around the Palmetto State.
Dontarius James will play his AAU basketball this spring with the South Carolina Supreme with Zion Williamson. James recently picked up a scholarship offer from the College of Charleston. James plays at Andrew Jackson HS and is ranked in The Top 10 of the 2018 class.
Jimmy Nichols
Jimmy Nichols recently won the Hoop Zone Award for the best player in the Area from the Pee Dee to the Grand Strand. Nichols defeated Jamal Bryant (Wilson) and Jalen Cameron (West Florence). Nichols (2018) from Conway HS will suit up for Garner Road AAU this spring.
Issac Ford helped Wren HS to the 4A State Championship before losing to Lower Richland HS 51-42. Ford a 6’5 swngman will play at nearby Southern Wesleyan University (SC) next fall. Ford averaged 17.9 ppg and 3.7 rebounds this season for the Hurricanes.
CJ Wright decided to end his recruitment and commit to Newberry University (SC) (NCAA D2) for next season. Wright played at Airport HS. Wright averaged 18.5 ppg, 8 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Wright left the school as the all-time leading scorer.
Bryce Thompson
Bryce Thompson (2018) has decided to leave Ben Lippen and transfer over to Dutch Fork HS. Thompson plans on enrolling at Dutch Fork HS on Monday. Thompson excels on the football field and the hardwood. Thompson ran for 1,819 yards this past season. Thompson a Virginia Tech commit on the football field plans on taking in the South Carolina spring game.
Thompson started off his freshman season at Dutch Fork HS before transferring over to Ben Lippen the past two seasons. Thompson wasn’t eligible to play as a sophomore.
