Prospect Spotlight: Jimmie Pittman (2018)
St. Amant’s 6-foot-1 point guard Jimmie Pittman is coming off the heels of a junior season where he made great strides with his game.
And as he heads into his 17U offseason, he’s hoping some college coaches will take notice.
“I’ve got a couple schools that are interested, I think they are D2 schools. I want to play D1 in college,” said Pittman.
Last season he played with Elfrid Payton during the spring and summer, this season he’ll play with YGLA.
“During (YGLA) tryouts I had a connection with all the players, so that’s why I decided to play with them,” said Pittman.
“I just want to get better and get some exposure this summer, and get some scholarships before my senior year.”
A lead guard with sharpshooting ability, Pittman explained his style of play to PHLA.
“My strength is shooting 3s. I can pass like a point guard, though I’m not pass-first, but if somebody is open I’ll find them. And I can get to to the rim pretty well too,” said Pittman.
He says he averaged 15 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds per game during his junior season.
“My coach needed me to score and help my teammates get better. But my main role was just to score, myself and KJ Franklin,” said Pittman.
“I played great at times, but I feel like I could have played better though. Some games I stopped playing aggressive, but then I’d get back into it.”
This offseason the goal — in addition to getting some scholarships — is simply to improve.
“This offseason I’m trying to get stronger and faster,” said Pittman. “So when I go to the hole it will be more relentless.”
