Prospect Spotlight: Darrell Green (2017)
In 2015-16, the Perry Hall Gators reached the state semifinals only to fall short after being defeated by the eventual state champions in Eleanor Roosevelt. That left a bitter taste in the mouths of the underclassmen that had plans to not only return to the Xfinity Center, but finish the deal and be crowned 4A state champions.
One of those core pieces was Darrell Green. Much of the attention on Perry Hall goes toward their 6’8 twin towers Laquill Hardnett (2018) and Anthony Higgs (2018), but Green was arguably the most important piece in reaching their goal this past season by defeating Quince Orchard in the 4A State Final.
Green averaged 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocks per game his senior year. Most importantly, he is a proven winner. Perry Hall’s 26-2 record and state title can help attest to that.
There were multiple occasions when head coach George Panageotou referred to Green as their leader on and off the floor. The 6’4 wing is a quiet leader. He isn’t one that is going to be screaming at teammates on the floor or being extremely flamboyant, he’ll instead pull a teammate to the side during the crucial moments of a game and instill words of confidence or constructive criticism.
Perry Hall claims a thrilling 63-60 overtime win over Lake Clifton. Darrell Green scored a game-high 24 points and Laquill hardnett had 16.

Skill wise, Green has the type of game to fit in almost anywhere you put him. Where he shines most is defensively and the way he plays passing lanes away from the ball. Green does a great job of anticipating the play from multiple passes away. He uses his athleticism to cover ground in weakside rotations where he collects most of his blocks.
Perry Hall was an uptempo team, which allowed Green to showcase his ability to finish around the rim on a consistent basis. With his high basketball IQ, he reads in mid-transition in order to figure out whether he will fill the lane all the way to the hoop, or fade into the mid-range to three-point line. He is a capable shooter in drive and kick situations.
UMBC has shown interest in Green among a number of Division 3 programs. He told PrepHoops that despite the interest, his recruitment remains wide open. Green has the size to contribute immediately as a freshman.
This spring, he’ll play for Cecil Kirk 17U in order to gather more interest and polish his skills. While he wants to continue to improve defensively, if Green can become more of a threat off the dribble, it will make him an even more capable offensive threat.
